Updating This Bitch

Funny how “man, I can’t come up with anything to post today” leads to multiple weeks of apathy. Well, I still can’t think of anything super-incredible, but it’s definitely time to break the cycle and get back to posting regularly. Here’s some stuff:

The most significant item of the last several weeks is that Tendril vocal recording is now complete. Meaning, all that’s left now is to add a couple of minor samples and mix the thing. We started the recording process in February. Seems like forever ago, but eight months is a lot better than the 2+ years we worked on and off on Anaphase, Baby! It’s almost time to party. Someone get to booking Andrew WK!

Speaking of Andrew WK, I’ve been digging the heck out of his new Gundam Rock album. Yes, that’s right, I said GUNDAM. And ROCK. And ANDREW WK. One of those times when worlds collide and all you can do is raise your hands and go WTF? YESSSSSS! (See also: “Tim Burton is doing Planet of the Apes?!?“) It’s a whole album of songs from Mobile Suit Gundam translated into English and done Andrew WK-style. And it’s as awesome as it sounds.

Also on the “listening” front, lots of new/cool albums have been coming out lately. Here are some highlights:

AFICrash Love – Pretty much love every song except track #8. (And the deluxe edition bonus tracks, which are mostly crap.) Favorites are 3, 5, 6, and 9.

MuseThe Resistance – As expected. Love every track. A little same-y as far as Muse stuff goes, but still an A+ album in comparison to everything else.

ParamoreBrand New Eyes – Love this band and have been looking forward to this for awhile. Definitely a great album and some clear growth in there. Love every song except maybe one or two. “Playing God” is one of the catchiest songs I’ve heard in a long time. Not sure if that’s an album single, but it should be. The acoustic track “Misguided Ghosts” is probably my second favorite, and sounds like it could be a Jenny Lewis song.

ThriceBeggars – “Thrice – Boring“. This album just hasn’t hooked me much at all and I was really looking forward to it. Much like Sparta’s “Porcelain” album when that came out. Totally nothing in particular that I can find to grab hold of and enjoy. Maybe I’ll like it more in a couple of years. I hate to say it, because I’m a fan of band evolution, and I’ve enjoyed everything of theirs up to now, but I’ve grown bored with the mellower / “folkier” Thrice and wish they’d make a riffy album again.

DethklokDethalbum II – Really dig it, especially as background music, but the songs mostly run together. I couldn’t necessarily pick a favorite, ’cause I couldn’t tell you which song was which… Maybe with time… I did thoroughly enjoy the bonus DVD with the live screen footage from the concerts, though. Some funny stuff in there.

Final Fantasy Dissidia Soundtrack – 2 full discs of new and old Final Fantasy tunes. Of course I love it.

There are several more new albums I’ve been digging, but I’ll move on for now…

It must be migraine season, because I’ve sure been getting a few over the last couple of weeks. Sucks. This is, of course, on top of near-daily allergy/sinus fun and trying hard not to take Benadryl daily.

Got my Xbox 360 back on Monday! Hopefully this will lead to a trip down to Arkham Asylum sometime soon. Maybe over the weekend…

Also on the videogame front – I’m currently about 3/5 into Tomb Raider II, which I downloaded from the PSN on the PS3, due to being 360-less. Despite the irony of playing a 12 year old game on a $400 gaming system, it’s actually been pretty enjoyable. Visually, the game has aged horribly. Almost unplayably horribly, but once I got used to the graphics and unconventional controls, I started having fun with it. A truckload of nostalgia helps as well. They just don’t make games like this anymore, both length-wise and soul-crushing-difficulty-wise.

Been watching The State DVDs. Kind of boring, to be honest. Although I’ve enjoyed the commentaries quite a bit. (Much moreso than the actual episodes.)

Also been watching Gundam ZZ, for the first time. This is the sequel series to Zeta Gundam (my favorite of the Gundams) which has never been released on any format in the U.S. Fortunately, there’s the internet and internet people who like to translate and release those kind of things.

Speaking of people – Who are these people still buying a ticket to every new SAW movie? SAW 6?!? Seriously?
