Top 10 TV/Movies of 2009

Here it is. The stuff I most enjoyed watching this year, in order of awesomeness.

Darren’s Top 10 Favorite TV/Movies of 2009

  1. Battlestar Galactica (Final Season)

  2. I loved every minute of the final season. Great series, great finale. Screw the haters.

  3. Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Season 2)

  4. This show didn’t impress me too much until the back half of the first season. Then it got much darker and more interesting. The introduction of Cad Bane, a bad-ass bounty hunter who is what Boba Fett always should have been, also made a huge impact. Plus, lots of death, and ZOMBIES IN STAR WARS.

  5. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Season 2)

  6. While I thought season 1 was way more interesting than season 2, things were really on fire by the end, when they pulled the plug on the series, leaving an epic cliffhanger that will NEVER be resolved. Ugh.

  7. Dear Zachary

  8. (Technically, this came out at the end of 2008, but I didn’t see it until early ’09.) Gripping, heartbreaking and inspiring documentary that everyone should see.

  9. District 9

  10. Such a well-crafted and unique sci-fi experience, caught me totally off guard. There wasn’t a single dull moment in the entire 2 hours. So glad we got this instead of the Halo movie.

  11. Reno 911! (Final Season)

  12. Another great show that it’s heartbreaking to see go. Though, admittedly, this last season wasn’t as hilarious as the previous 4.

  13. Star Trek

  14. Not much to say here. Seemingly everyone in the world saw and loved Star Trek.

  15. Watchmen

  16. Nicely faithful, beautiful, and an awesome cast, especially Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach. I was prepared for either direction on this and loved it.

  17. Religulous

  18. Questions a lot of people, traditions, and ideas that need to be questioned and rarely are. Still don’t love Bill Maher, but he was very tolerable in this.

  19. Anvil: The Story of Anvil

  20. Another one of those experiences that just makes you proud to be in a band, regardless of what level. I really, really hope that they are making a post-‘success’ sequel to this, because I think that could possibly end up even more interesting!

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

  • Objectified – Great design doc
  • One Piece – Hilarious serialized pirate adventurin’ anime
  • Let the Right One In – Hard to describe, young love / horror hybrid
  • Gundam OO – Latest Gundam epic, recently wrapped up
  • The Wrestler – Couldn’t look away

I am not ashamed to admit I bawled my eyes out watching Dear Zachary. That documentary was so heart-wrenching…

I haven’t seen Clone Wars yet, but I’ve been meaning to ever since I heard of the bounty hunter angle.
