battlestar-galactica-last-supper-2008

Tonight’s the finale. [/tear] It’s been an incredible ride. Here’s a BSG-Specific Top Ten, from usaweekend. (If I wasn’t short on time, I’d make my own. Maybe another time.) Two-Hour finale TONIGHT, it’s going to be epic.

Top Ten Battlestar Galactica Moments

1. Tigh and Adama reunite after the New Caprica rescue

A grizzled, one-eyed Tigh steps off the raptor, and Adama is happy to finally see his old friend. “You brought ’em home, Saul.” “Not all of them,” Tigh says, referring to his wife, whom he’d just killed for conspiring with the enemy. Tigh wanders off, shell-shocked and forlorn. (Watch it on DVD: “Exodus Part II,” Season 3, Ep. 4; go to 38:05)

2. Zarek orders the execution of the quorum

I didn’t know whether to yell, cry or throw up when Zarek, hellbent on taking over the Galactica, exits the conference room and calmly tells two marines, “Shoot them.” Then, off-screen, a hail of machine-gun fire. It’s horrifying, but it’s an order not out of character for a man with such strong, albeit appalling, convictions. (Watch it on your TiVo: “Blood on the Scales,” Season 4, Ep. 14)

3. We realize that Caprica Six has a Head Baltar

Until this point, we’ve only seen Baltar’s Head Six. Suddenly, we realize he’s not the only one with an “angel”: When Caprica Six is reborn, her Head Baltar is waiting for her next to the resurrection tank. Totally unexpected, but totally awesome. (Watch it on DVD: “Downloaded,” Season 2, Ep. 18; the first scene)

4. Adama and Roslin finally declare their love

Roslin has been taken aboard a Cylon ship that jumps away; Adama realizes he can’t live without her, so he waits for her alone. When the ship returns, and he boards to find Roslin, who tells him, “I love you.” He looks at her and says (in typical Adama fashion), “About time.” Indeed. (Watch it on DVD: “The Hub” Season 4, Ep. 9; go to 42:04)

5. Lee makes Roslin admit, under oath, that her cancer has returned

Lee, Lee, Lee. Seems like he’s never really sure whose side he should be on. Here, he’s cross-examining Roslin during Baltar’s trial. He wants to win, so he uses his friendship with Roslin against her. She sees where the line of questioning is heading and whispers to him, “Please don’t do this. Please.” Heart-breaking. (Watch it on DVD: “Crossroads, Part I,” Season 3, Ep. 19; go to 35:45)

6. Six kills D’Anna

Caprica and Boomer realize that killing millions of humans was very wrong and that they must use their influence to convince the other Cylons that murder is immoral. But D’Anna isn’t buying it. As D’Anna points her gun at Anders, Six comes from behind and bashes her head in. The act signals the start of a new future for humans and Cylons. (Watch it online here: “Downloaded” Season 2, Ep. 18)

7. The new Cylons finally show up at an armistice meeting

Hoo-boy. These ain’t your grandfather’s Cylons. From the very start, we know: Humans are in for a world of hurt. (Watch it on DVD: “Miniseries, Night 1”; the first scene)

8. Gaius tries to hide self-incriminating evidence

For as brilliant a scientist as Baltar is, he’s totally inept at simply trying to erase his image from a computer that would implicate him in the destruction of mankind. This is one of the first times we see Baltar at his best/worst: scheming, bumbling, hilarious. (Watch it on DVD: “Six Degrees of Separation” Season 1, Ep. 7; go to 29:01)

9. Apollo takes down a Centurion aboard the Galactica

A group of Centurions sneak onto the ship and wreak havoc. Apollo and a small group of pilots set up a barricade with limited ammo as a last line of defense. One Centurion makes it almost all the way through, only to be blasted out of the air as it jumps over Apollo. Scary! (Watch it on DVD: “Valley of Darkness,” Season 2, Ep. 2; go to 36:50)

10. Chief beats Cally

Chief has been having nightmares that he’s a Cylon. Cally makes the unfortunate mistake of trying to wake Chief from his slumber, and he beats the hell of her, then realizes what he has done. In retrospect, it’s even more sad because we learned later that Chief really is a Cylon. (Watch it on DVD: “Lay Down Your Burdens Part I” Season 2, Ep. 19; go to 34:30)
